FPS (First Person Shooter) genre in XBox 360

  • BioShock - Prettiest Game To Date. Full Stop. Amazingly deep story that’s not too hard to follow. Unbelievable sound engineering – you must play it with headphones or a nice 5.1 surround sound.
  • Gears of War - Most “immersively urgent” Game to Date. I’m literally on the edge of my seat with this game. The camera work is fantastic and the human models are the best I’ve seen in any game, including Halo 3
  • Halo 3 - Most Balanced Game. There’s something about Halo’s Multiplayer Matching. I noticed it in the Halo 3 Beta, and it’s even better in the Final Release. The folks I was matched against were not kicking my ass as completely as they usually do. I attribute this to being matched to folks within my skill range. It’s very nice.

Build my own Silent Organic PC – using a Milk Box

SANY0016 SANY0139

In the last couple of weeks, I have spent time to build my own PC.

Requirements

1. Silent or Near-Silent

I plan to use this PC as my entertainment center connected to my TV and use it as DVR which means it will be sitting in my living room and probably like <10 feet from my couch….SO IT HAS TO BE AS SILENT AS POSSIBLE!

2. Low Power Consumption

Running it as DVR also mean it will be running 24×7 (unless I have a way to put it to sleep in the middle of the nite :>). So low power consumption is important to me. <$5/month will be acceptable :>

3. Small Footprint

Who doesn’t want a powerful server hide inside a computer as small as an gadget? I want something smaller than Micro-ATX.

4. Pretty on the outside

I don’t know about you. But I just hate those Computer Case Mods in the market. I still don’t understand why people will like to put a glass over the case and show people how messy the inside of their computer is.  And even worse they will put LEDs inside to force people to see it even when the lights turn off!  :<

AutoHotkey – Automate almost anything by sending keystrokes and mouse clicks

AutoHotkey is a free, open-source utility for Windows. With it, you can:

  • Automate almost anything by sending keystrokes and mouse clicks. You can write a mouse or keyboard macro by hand or use the macro recorder.
  • Create hotkeys for keyboard, joystick, and mouse. Virtually any key, button, or combination can become a hotkey.
  • Expand abbreviations as you type them. For example, typing “btw” can automatically produce “by the way”.
  • Create custom data-entry forms, user interfaces, and menu bars. See GUI for details.
  • Remap keys and buttons on your keyboard, joystick, and mouse.
  • Respond to signals from hand-held remote controls via the WinLIRC client script.
  • Run existing AutoIt v2 scripts and enhance them with new capabilities.
  • Convert any script into an EXE file that can be run on computers that don’t have AutoHotkey installed.

Getting started might be easier than you think. Check out the quick-start tutorial.

AutoHotkey unleashes the full potential of your keyboard, joystick, and mouse. For example, in addition to the typical Control, Alt, and Shift modifiers, you can use the Windows key and the Capslock key as modifiers. In fact, you can make any key or mouse button act as a modifier. For these and other capabilities, see Advanced Hotkeys.

Example:

Run Notepad
Run C:\My Documents\Address List.doc
Run C:\My Documents\My Shortcut.lnk
Run www.yahoo.com
Run mailto:someone@somedomain.com

#n::Run Notepad   \\ hotkey is Win+N
^!c::Run calc.exe   \\ hotkey Ctrl+Alt+C

Map 1 hotkey to run multiple commands
#n::
Run http://www.google.com
Run Notepad.exe
return

Wait for Program to finish
RunWait Notepad
MsgBox The user has finished (Notepad has been closed).

Sending keystrokes and mouse clicks
#s::
Send Sincerely,{Enter}John Smith
return

Activate and manipulate Windows
IfWinExist Untitled - Notepad
{
    WinActivate
}
else
{
    Run Notepad
    WinWait Untitled - Notepad

Customer pitch vs Investor pitch

Investors care about some of the same things, but not to the same depth as a customer. Investors care about management teams, competitive advantages, competition, market size, cash flow, and how you will use the investment dollars.

Customer pitch needs to be different too,  for technical audiences versus business people.

    • Technical audience wants deep technical content. They want to know how it works, how it integrates with what they already have, and why it is better. The technical people are usually advisors…they don’t have budget control and they don’t make the purchase decision. But, they can eliminate you from the approved vendor list.
    • Business people care about solving business problems. They do NOT care about HOW it is done from a technical standpoint. Business people care about how your product or service will help them provide better products or services to their customers. They care about customers and business. If you are trying to sell a productivity product or service (better, faster, cheaper, smaller) it better translate in some way to customer benefits, not employee benefits. Business people have the budget and usually make the purchase decision

The 10 minute investor pitch can be very effective if done properly. The best presenters cover; what problem do we solve, what are the alternative solutions, why are we better, how big is the market, what have we accomplished so far, a sampling of customers, experience of the team,  how much money are we looking for, and financial projections. Nine slides in 10 minutes. Leave plenty of time for questions. Perfect!!

NIELSEN//NETRATINGS REPORTS TOPLINE U.S. DATA FOR AUGUST 2007

image

Example:  The data indicates that 45.2 million home and work Internet users visited at least one of the
Wikimedia Foundation-owned sites or launched a Wikimedia Foundation-owned application during the
month, and each person spent, on average, a total of 16 minutes and 35 seconds at one or more of their
sites or applications.
A parent company is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs owned by a single entity. A
brand is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs that has a consistent collection of
branded content.

Estimated spending reflects CPM-based advertising online, and excludes search-based advertising, paid
fee services, performance-based campaigns, sponsorships, barters, partnership advertising, advertorials,
promotions and e-mail. Impressions reported exclude house ads, which are ads that run on an
advertiser’s own or related property and co-branding relationships.
Example:  An estimated 4.7 billion Privacy Matters ads were rendered for viewing at the cost of
approximately $14.3 million during the surfing period.

The Holy Grail For Mobile Social Networks

We’ve been tracking emerging mobile-only social networks such as ZYB and Mocospace and Mig33. All have unique selling points but there’s one solid gold feature that none yet have: physical presence detection and information exchange with other users.

This is the Holy Grail of mobile social networking, and one of the main reasons for taking the networks off the desktop/laptop environment in the first place. Imagine walking into a meeting, classroom, party, bar, subway station, airplane, etc. and seeing profile information about other people in the area, depending on privacy settings. Picture, name, dating status, resume information, etc. The information that is available would be relevant to the setting – quick LinkedIn type information for a business meeting v. Facebook dating status for a bar.

Knowing when your friends are around, and having the ability to meet new people who share your interests (even if it’s just that you are both single), will drive massive usage of networks. But, as with many new services, a chicken and egg problem looms. Until everyone is using this, there is no real reason for anyone to use it.

Technical barriers aren’t an issue – cell phone tower triangulation and bluetooth solve a lot of the problems of locating users and transmitting information between phones. What’s harder is just plain getting a critical mass of users.
